Cleaning Consultants
People often ask how we got started in what can only be described as a mucky business. Like many companies, Cleaning Consultants grew and diversified, starting in 1972 with a very basic but then state of the art steam cleaner, washing commercial vehicles. This quickly progressed to many years of cleaning livestock pens on farms, followed by cleaning and painting factory and garage floors.

Since those early days we have pioneered new methods of cleaning and paint stripping. Blast cleaning was a natural progression. It was pretty crude in the early 80's but refinements like vacuum recovery blast cleaning with reduced dust was a great benefit in areas like the Channel Tunnel and London Underground. Over the years the processes have evolved and there are numerous different blasting systems and materials in the market place.

Each has its own benefits and limitations but we elected to pursue plastic media blasting for paint stripping classic car and aeroplane parts in particular, because of its 'Green' credentials - since largely re-cycled material is used, but we expanded also into the use of various grades of fine abrasives that not only remove paints, powder coating, wood stains, but also corrosion - something most other methods used in car restoration cannot do.
Services
We would like to thank you for your prompt and professional service.
Would you please pass on our thanks to the men who carried out the work.
They did an excellent job, left everywhere clean and tidy and were very helpful and courteous.
The beams look magnificent and totally transform the look of the house in a way I hardly dare imagine they would.
The most impressive bit was the total fulfilment of your claim that you would leave the house cleaner than you found it.
The work was superb.
We were so impressed by your Company standards from beginning to end we would recommend your services to anybody.
Professional and amateur restorers from all over the UK bring us car bodies, panels and parts for removing paint and/or corrosion.
Since we started the blasting side of our business in 1985 some interesting items have passed through our works.
D-Type and XKSS Jaguars, Ferraris, Maseratis, Aston Martins and Lamborghinis are some of the more exotic classic cars we've helped to restore, but we also cater to more modest vehicles, MGB, Morris, Rover, Triumph, the list is endless.
From Formula 1 to hot rods, from vintage to classic, from army quad bikes to bubble cars, from tractors to Aston Martins.
The method we use to remove paint from cars and motorcycles is Plastic Media Dry Stripping.
This has replaced the old sand blasting methods which are now illegal.
Plastic Media Dry Stripping was initially developed for the aerospace industry.
This blast cleaning technique uses millions of tiny particles of angular graded plastic propelled at the surface to be paint stripped in a stream of fast moving compressed air.
The paint is removed by the chipping and scratching action of the sharp edged pieces of plastic.
We can clean virtually any engine part as long as it is completely stripped down and sensitive areas are masked.
Whether we use plastic, garnet, glass bead or vapour blast media very much depends on what we are taking off and what the engine part is made from, i.e. hard steel, mild steel, aluminium, etc.
We have cleaned whole engines, like the very rare Merlin engine from a Spitfire, all 26 litres of it.
With any engine part that comes into contact with the oil we normally only clean with our plastic material, because it does not dig into the surface of the metal like grit could.
We clean all types of wheels for motorcycles, cars, lorries, tractors, thorough to Formula 1, including steel, alloy or magnesium.
We even clean wooden spoked wheels for vintage and veteran cars.
The material and coating to be removed will dictate whether we use plastic media, grit or glass bead to achieve the required finish, sometimes all three.
If the wheel is powdercoated it can increase the time taken substantially.
Magnesium wheels often arrive for blasting and we take the paint off with plastic media only.
